Design Trend - In touch with nature

Design Trend - In touch with nature

Kingsford’s spectacular natural setting and larger-than-average blocks make it easy to be inspired by many of today’s design trends.

Here’s the first of our four current favourites:

In touch with nature

Indoor / outdoor living has long been a big trend in home design, but now we’re taking it up a notch, seeking every opportunity to connect with the natural world around us.

In designer circles you may hear the trend referred to as the biophilic style. Put simply, biophilia is a love of nature. And after stifling pandemic lockdowns and restrictions, it’s a trend that’s nourishing both heart and soul.

But it’s more than simply a focus on everything leafy green and a resurgence in pot plants, atriums and indoor herb gardens.

Think calming colours, natural textures, big picture windows with a garden view, thoughtfully placed skylights, lots of natural light, and an expansive timber deck for admiring the garden by day and stargazing by night.

Surfaces focus on the natural look of stoneware, terracotta, clay, marble, travertine and timber. The raw, imperfect nature of organic materials add character and ambience, bringing the quiet, restorative qualities of nature indoors.

Using nature as a key design influence can help you create a greater sense of comfort and nurturing. We only have to look as far as our parklands and the backdrop of the Darling Scarp to draw inspiration.

Soft, undulating shapes mimic the contours of the landscape, adding a soothing, tranquil quality to the place we call home.

Local landscape

Take your cues from the meandering, tree-lined Ki-It Monger Brook and restful woodland reserves with their abundance of natural flora and fauna, and you’ll have no end of inspiration for your own biophilic design scheme.

Maybe it’ll be a touch of natural stone and a luxuriant planter box to set the scene at your front door, with Mother Nature showing up in botanical prints, timber and a rich autumnal colour palette as you step inside.

The natural design trend works well with both classic and contemporary home styles, enabling you to make it as elegant and timeless, or as modern and edgy, as the mood takes you.
